The chapter

What happens here

Atlas's own reading, written from this chapter and nothing else, and published only once a person has approved it. Each scene names the verses it covers; the names inside it link to the people and places they name.

One verse commands four rounds of singing, as though a single summons might not quite contain the occasion: God is King, and the refrain keeps going.

The King over all the earthvv. 1–9

The psalm throws open the gates at once: every people is summoned to clap, shout, and acknowledge the awesome King Most High. His rule is described in wonderfully imperial terms—nations subdued, an inheritance chosen, and the pride of Jacob specially cherished. Then comes the grand ascent, complete with joyful shouting and the sound of the horn, after which the singers repeat their command four times in one breath. The horizon widens again: God reigns over nations, sits on the holy throne, and the nobles assemble as the people of the God of Abraham. Even the shields of the earth belong to him, which is a tidy way of making every last piece of military furniture answerable to the throne.
