The chapter

What happens here

Atlas's own reading, written from this chapter and nothing else, and published only once a person has approved it. Each scene names the verses it covers; the names inside it link to the people and places they name.

Jehoshaphat is introduced as Asa’s son, then commended for walking in the ways of “his father David”—a small genealogical sidestep, left briskly unexplained.

A kingdom strengthened and instructedvv. 1–6

Jehoshaphat begins by strengthening himself against Israel, fortifying Judah and holding the cities of Ephraim captured by Asa. The LORD is with him because he seeks the God of his father, rather than the practices of Israel; Judah brings tribute, and Jehoshaphat removes the high places and Asherah poles. His heart, meanwhile, takes delight in the ways of the LORD—a king with both garrisons and enthusiasms.

The law travels through Judahvv. 7–11

In the third year, Jehoshaphat sends officials, Levites, and priests through the cities and towns of Judah with the Book of the Law of the LORD. They teach the people, and dread falls on the surrounding kingdoms, which consequently do not make war. Philistines bring silver and tribute; the Arabs bring 7,700 rams and 7,700 goats, an impressively symmetrical flock whose reason the chapter does not trouble to supply.

Fortresses, store cities, and a very large mustervv. 12–19

Jehoshaphat grows stronger, builds fortresses and store cities, and keeps vast supplies in Judah. Jerusalem has mighty men of valor, listed by their ancestral houses: Judah supplies commanders and hundreds of thousands, Benjamin supplies bowmen and shield-bearers, and the king’s servants are counted besides the troops in the fortified cities. The chapter ends not with a battle, but with the army standing there in its immense numerical order.

Who else the chapter reaches

Names written in the English are linked in the text above. These are the ones that are not: an entity the Hebrew or Greek names under a spelling the translation does not use, or one reached only by an assertion about a verse of this chapter.

Named in the Hebrew or Greek somewhere in this chapter, under a form the English renders differently — the registry's Ludim against the translation's Ludites — so there is no word in the sentence to hang the link on.

Reached by an assertion Atlas extracted from a verse of this chapter rather than by a name written in it — a pronoun, a title, or a participant the sentence carries without naming. This layer is model-read and measured at 88.6–90.3% precision, and it is kept separate from the names above for that reason.
