What happens here
Atlas's own reading, written from this chapter and nothing else, and published only once a person has approved it. Each scene names the verses it covers; the names inside it link to the people and places they name.
The LORD will search Jerusalem with lamps, as though complacency might be hiding in the furniture, and then punish the men who say, “The LORD will do nothing, either good or bad.”
A sacrifice with an alarming guest listvv. 1–7
The word comes to Zephaniah in the days of Josiah, and the family line is carefully set out: Cushi, Gedaliah, Amariah, and Hezekiah. Then the LORD announces a sweeping away so thorough that man, beast, birds, fish, idols, and their worshipers all appear in the same dreadful inventory. Judah and Jerusalem are singled out, along with rooftop star-worshipers, double swearers, and those who have simply stopped seeking the LORD. The scene is then given its strangest shape: a sacrifice has been prepared, guests have been consecrated, and silence is required.
Lamps in Jerusalemvv. 8–13
The punishment moves through the city’s inhabitants: princes, the king’s sons, people dressed in foreign apparel, and those who leap over the threshold while filling their master’s house with violence and deceit. A cry rises from the Fish Gate, a wail from the Second Quarter, and a crash from the hills. Mortar is told to wail because merchants and silver-weighers will be silenced. Then Jerusalem is searched with lamps—not a grand celestial instrument, but lamps—and the settled men who imagine that nothing will happen are found in the path of plunder, ruined houses, uninhabited buildings, and vineyards whose wine they will never drink.
The day arrives with nearly every dark noun availablevv. 14–18
The great Day of the LORD comes near and quickly, bringing a bitter cry from the mighty. It is named, in an almost breathless procession, as wrath, trouble, distress, destruction, desolation, darkness, gloom, clouds, blackness, horn blast, and battle cry. Fortified cities and high corner towers are not spared. Mankind walks like the blind, blood is poured out like dust, flesh like dung, and silver and gold prove entirely useless. The earth ends under the fire of His jealousy, with a sudden end for all who dwell on it.

Zeph 1:1This is the word of the LORD that came to Zephaniah son of Cushi, the son of Gedaliah, the son of Amariah, the son of Hezekiah, in the days of Josiah son of Amon king of Judah:
Zeph 1:2“I will completely sweep away everything from the face of the earth,” declares the LORD.
Zeph 1:3“I will sweep away man and beast; I will sweep away the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, and the idols with their wicked worshipers. I will cut off mankind from the face of the earth,” declares the LORD.
Zeph 1:4“I will stretch out My hand against Judah and against all who dwell in Jerusalem. I will cut off from this place every remnant of Baal, the names of the idolatrous and pagan priests—
Zeph 1:5those who bow on the rooftops to worship the host of heaven, those who bow down and swear by the LORD but also swear by Milcom,
Zeph 1:6and those who turn back from following the LORD, neither seeking the LORD nor inquiring of Him.”
Zeph 1:7Be silent in the presence of the Lord GOD, for the Day of the LORD is near. Indeed, the LORD has prepared a sacrifice; He has consecrated His guests.
Zeph 1:8“On the Day of the LORD’s sacrifice I will punish the princes, the sons of the king, and all who are dressed in foreign apparel.
Zeph 1:9On that day I will punish all who leap over the threshold, who fill the house of their master with violence and deceit.
Zeph 1:10On that day,” declares the LORD, “a cry will go up from the Fish Gate, a wail from the Second District, and a loud crashing from the hills.
Zeph 1:11Wail, O dwellers of the Hollow, for all your merchants will be silenced; all who weigh out silver will be cut off.
Zeph 1:12And at that time I will search Jerusalem with lamps and punish the men settled in complacency, who say to themselves, ‘The LORD will do nothing, either good or bad.’
Zeph 1:13Their wealth will be plundered and their houses laid waste. They will build houses but not inhabit them, and plant vineyards but never drink their wine.
Zeph 1:14The great Day of the LORD is near—near and coming quickly. Listen, the Day of the LORD! Then the cry of the mighty will be bitter.
Zeph 1:15That day will be a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of destruction and desolation, a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and blackness,
Zeph 1:16a day of horn blast and battle cry against the fortified cities, and against the high corner towers.
Zeph 1:17I will bring such distress on mankind that they will walk like the blind, because they have sinned against the LORD. Their blood will be poured out like dust and their flesh like dung.
Zeph 1:18Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to deliver them on the Day of the LORD’s wrath. The whole earth will be consumed by the fire of His jealousy.” For indeed, He will make a sudden end of all who dwell on the earth.

Who else the chapter reaches
Names written in the English are linked in the text above. These are the ones that are not: an entity the Hebrew or Greek names under a spelling the translation does not use, or one reached only by an assertion about a verse of this chapter.
Named in the Hebrew or Greek somewhere in this chapter, under a form the English renders differently — the registry's Ludim against the translation's Ludites — so there is no word in the sentence to hang the link on.
Reached by an assertion Atlas extracted from a verse of this chapter rather than by a name written in it — a pronoun, a title, or a participant the sentence carries without naming. This layer is model-read and measured at 88.6–90.3% precision, and it is kept separate from the names above for that reason.
