Malachi 4

Every verse links to the people and places named in it, and to the passages readers connect it with.

The chapter

What happens here

Atlas's own reading, written from this chapter and nothing else, and published only once a person has approved it. Each scene names the verses it covers; the names inside it link to the people and places they name.

A winged sun rises over a future in which the wicked become ashes and calves come springing from their stalls: apocalypse with livestock choreography.

The day of fire and the winged sunvv. 1–3

The coming day burns like a furnace, and the arrogant and evildoers are reduced to stubble, with neither root nor branch left. But those who fear the LORD’s name meet a very different dawn: the sun of righteousness rises with healing in its wings, and they go out leaping like calves released from a stall. The wicked, meanwhile, become ashes beneath their feet—a remarkably thorough rearrangement of the landscape.

Moses remembered, Elijah sentvv. 4–6

The word then turns from the coming day to what must be remembered: the law of Moses, with its statutes and ordinances, commanded for all Israel at Horeb. Before the great and awesome Day of the LORD, Elijah the prophet will be sent. His work is wonderfully domestic: fathers’ hearts turned towards their children, and children’s hearts towards their fathers. Otherwise, the land faces a curse.

  1. Mal 4:1“For behold, the day is coming, burning like a furnace, when all the arrogant and every evildoer will be stubble; the day is coming when I will set them ablaze,” says the LORD of Hosts. “Not a root or branch will be left to them.”

  2. Mal 4:2“But for you who fear My name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings, and you will go out and leap like calves from the stall.

  3. Mal 4:3Then you will trample the wicked, for they will be ashes under the soles of your feet on the day I am preparing,” says the LORD of Hosts.

  4. Mal 4:4“Remember the law of My servant Moses, the statutes and ordinances I commanded him for all Israel at Horeb.

  5. Mal 4:5Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and awesome Day of the LORD.

  6. Mal 4:6And he will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers. Otherwise, I will come and strike the land with a curse.”

Who else the chapter reaches

Names written in the English are linked in the text above. These are the ones that are not: an entity the Hebrew or Greek names under a spelling the translation does not use, or one reached only by an assertion about a verse of this chapter.

Reached by an assertion Atlas extracted from a verse of this chapter rather than by a name written in it — a pronoun, a title, or a participant the sentence carries without naming. This layer is model-read and measured at 88.6–90.3% precision, and it is kept separate from the names above for that reason.
