The chapter
What happens here
Atlas's own reading, written from this chapter and nothing else, and published only once a person has approved it. Each scene names the verses it covers; the names inside it link to the people and places they name.
The LORD invites a nation accused of robbing Him to test Him: bring the full tithe, and see whether heaven can be opened wide enough.
A messenger, a furnace, and a courtroomvv. 1–6
A messenger is sent ahead to prepare the way, and the Lord whom the people seek comes suddenly to His temple. The welcome is not exactly soft-focus: His arrival is like refiner’s fire and launderer’s soap, purifying the sons of Levi until their offerings please the LORD. Then judgment draws near, with sorcerers, adulterers, perjurers, oppressors, wage-defrauders, and those who deny justice to the foreigner all named in one brisk procession. The LORD’s constancy is the reason Jacob’s descendants have not been destroyed.
The peculiar robberyvv. 7–12
The people have turned away from the statutes, and the LORD calls them back. Their question—how can a return happen?—receives an even stranger answer: they are robbing God, specifically in tithes and offerings. The remedy is equally specific. Bring the full tithe into the storehouse; the LORD even says to test Him in this, promising food in His house, blessing without measure, protection for the land’s fruit, and a reputation for blessedness among all nations. Heaven, for once, is offered a practical trial.
A scroll for those who fear the LORDvv. 13–18
The people’s words against the LORD are called harsh, though their own version of events is that serving God has been futile and the arrogant seem blessed. Then the tone changes. Those who feared the LORD speak with one another; the LORD listens, hears, and has a scroll of remembrance written before Him. They become His treasured possession on the day He prepares it, spared as a man spares a son who serves him. At last comes a promised distinction between the righteous and the wicked, and between those who serve God and those who do not.

Mal 3:1“Behold, I will send My messenger, who will prepare the way before Me. Then the Lord whom you seek will suddenly come to His temple—the Messenger of the covenant, in whom you delight—see, He is coming,” says the LORD of Hosts.
Mal 3:2But who can endure the day of His coming? And who can stand when He appears? For He will be like a refiner’s fire, like a launderer’s soap.
Mal 3:3And He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver; He will purify the sons of Levi and refine them like gold and silver. Then they will present offerings to the LORD in righteousness.
Mal 3:4Then the offerings of Judah and Jerusalem will please the LORD, as in days of old and years gone by.
Mal 3:5“Then I will draw near to you for judgment. And I will be a swift witness against sorcerers and adulterers and perjurers, against oppressors of the widowed and fatherless, and against those who defraud laborers of their wages and deny justice to the foreigner but do not fear Me,” says the LORD of Hosts.
Mal 3:6“Because I, the LORD, do not change, you descendants of Jacob have not been destroyed.
Mal 3:7Yet from the days of your fathers, you have turned away from My statutes and have not kept them. Return to Me, and I will return to you,” says the LORD of Hosts. “But you ask, ‘How can we return?’
Mal 3:8Will a man rob God? Yet you are robbing Me! But you ask, ‘How do we rob You?’ In tithes and offerings.
Mal 3:9You are cursed with a curse, yet you—the whole nation—are still robbing Me.
Mal 3:10Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house. Test Me in this,” says the LORD of Hosts. “See if I will not open the windows of heaven and pour out for you blessing without measure.
Mal 3:11I will rebuke the devourer for you, so that it will not destroy the fruits of your land, and the vine in your field will not fail to produce fruit,” says the LORD of Hosts.
Mal 3:12“Then all the nations will call you blessed, for you will be a land of delight,” says the LORD of Hosts.
Mal 3:13“Your words against Me have been harsh,” says the LORD. “Yet you ask, ‘What have we spoken against You?’
Mal 3:14You have said, ‘It is futile to serve God. What have we gained by keeping His requirements and walking mournfully before the LORD of Hosts?
Mal 3:15So now we call the arrogant blessed. Not only do evildoers prosper, they even test God and escape.’”
Mal 3:16At that time those who feared the LORD spoke with one another, and the LORD listened and heard them. So a scroll of remembrance was written before Him regarding those who feared the LORD and honored His name.
Mal 3:17“They will be Mine,” says the LORD of Hosts, “on the day when I prepare My treasured possession. And I will spare them as a man spares his own son who serves him.
Mal 3:18So you will again distinguish between the righteous and the wicked, between those who serve God and those who do not.”

Who else the chapter reaches
Names written in the English are linked in the text above. These are the ones that are not: an entity the Hebrew or Greek names under a spelling the translation does not use, or one reached only by an assertion about a verse of this chapter.
Reached by an assertion Atlas extracted from a verse of this chapter rather than by a name written in it — a pronoun, a title, or a participant the sentence carries without naming. This layer is model-read and measured at 88.6–90.3% precision, and it is kept separate from the names above for that reason.
