2 Thessalonians 1

Every verse links to the people and places named in it, and to the passages readers connect it with.

The chapter

What happens here

Atlas's own reading, written from this chapter and nothing else, and published only once a person has approved it. Each scene names the verses it covers; the names inside it link to the people and places they name.

A church praised for growing faith and love is also promised a day when the Lord Jesus will appear from heaven in blazing fire, with mighty angels in attendance.

A flourishing church under pressurevv. 1–5

Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy address the church of the Thessalonians with grace and peace, then immediately begin giving thanks. Its faith is growing, its love is increasing, and its perseverance under persecution has become something the writers boast about among God’s churches. The affliction is not treated as a footnote: it is bound up with being counted worthy of the kingdom of God.

The day of blazing firevv. 6–10

Then the letter turns from present endurance to the Lord Jesus revealed from heaven. Affliction will be repaid to those who inflict it, relief granted to the oppressed, and the scene arrives with mighty angels and blazing fire. Those who do not know God or obey the gospel face eternal destruction, while Jesus comes to be glorified in his saints and regarded with wonder by believers—including the Thessalonians, who have believed the testimony.

A prayer for the name of Jesusvv. 11–12

The writers finish by saying what they always pray for: that God will count the Thessalonians worthy of his calling and powerfully fulfil every good desire and work of faith. The desired result is a splendid exchange of honour—the name of the Lord Jesus glorified in them, and they in him—according to grace.

Who else the chapter reaches

Names written in the English are linked in the text above. These are the ones that are not: an entity the Hebrew or Greek names under a spelling the translation does not use, or one reached only by an assertion about a verse of this chapter.

Named in the Hebrew or Greek somewhere in this chapter, under a form the English renders differently — the registry's Ludim against the translation's Ludites — so there is no word in the sentence to hang the link on.

Reached by an assertion Atlas extracted from a verse of this chapter rather than by a name written in it — a pronoun, a title, or a participant the sentence carries without naming. This layer is model-read and measured at 88.6–90.3% precision, and it is kept separate from the names above for that reason.
