What happens here
Atlas's own reading, written from this chapter and nothing else, and published only once a person has approved it. Each scene names the verses it covers; the names inside it link to the people and places they name.
A man may eat, drink, dress, and earn his wages, yet find the meal unfinished, the cup unsatisfying, the coat cold, and the purse already leaking.
The house in ruinsvv. 1–11
In the second year of Darius, on the first day of the sixth month, the LORD speaks through Haggai to Zerubbabel and Joshua. The people have said that the time has not come to rebuild the house of the LORD; meanwhile, they live in paneled houses while that house lies in ruins. Their daily disappointments are listed with almost domestic precision: much planting and little harvest, food without fullness, drink without satisfaction, clothes without warmth, and wages placed into a bag pierced through. The remedy is lumber from the hills and the rebuilding of the house. Until then, the heavens withhold dew, the earth withholds crops, and drought reaches fields, mountains, grain, wine, oil, people, beasts, and the work of their hands.
The work beginsvv. 12–15
Zerubbabel, Joshua, and all the remnant of the people obey the voice of the LORD and the words of Haggai, and the people fear the LORD. Haggai then delivers the message, “I am with you,” and the LORD stirs the spirits of Zerubbabel, Joshua, and the remnant. They come and begin the work on the house of the LORD of Hosts on the twenty-fourth day of the sixth month, in the second year of Darius. The chapter supplies the dates with great neatness; what passes between the first message and the beginning of the work is left uncounted.

Hag 1:10Therefore, on account of you the heavens have withheld their dew and the earth has withheld its crops.
Hag 1:11I have summoned a drought on the fields and on the mountains, on the grain, new wine, and oil, and on whatever the ground yields, on man and beast, and on all the labor of your hands.”
Hag 1:12Then Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel and Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, as well as all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the LORD their God and the words of the prophet Haggai, because the LORD their God had sent him. So the people feared the LORD.
Hag 1:13Haggai, the messenger of the LORD, delivered the message of the LORD to the people: “I am with you,” declares the LORD.
