2 Corinthians 13

Every verse links to the people and places named in it, and to the passages readers connect it with.

The chapter

What happens here

Atlas's own reading, written from this chapter and nothing else, and published only once a person has approved it. Each scene names the verses it covers; the names inside it link to the people and places they name.

A speaker prays for those addressed to do what is right even if their doing so makes him look as though he has failed.

A test with an unexpected resultvv. 1–10

The speaker announces a third visit, with witnesses in reserve and warnings already delivered. Some are demanding proof that Christ speaks through him; the answer is an oddly balanced one: Christ was crucified in weakness but lives by God’s power, and the speaker says the same power will govern the coming reckoning. Then the examination changes hands: those addressed are told to test themselves, while the speaker hopes they will pass even if he appears not to. He cannot act against the truth, and even rejoices at being weak when they are strong. His authority, he says, is for building up rather than tearing down.

The final instructionsvv. 11–14

The stern notice gives way to a string of compact farewells: rejoice, seek perfect harmony, encourage one another, be of one mind, and live in peace. There is a holy kiss, greetings from all the saints, and then a closing gathering of grace, love, and fellowship.

  1. 2 Cor 13:1This is the third time I am coming to you. “Every matter must be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.”

  2. 2 Cor 13:2I already warned you the second time I was with you. So now in my absence I warn those who sinned earlier and everyone else: If I return, I will not spare anyone,

  3. 2 Cor 13:3since you are demanding proof that Christ is speaking through me. He is not weak in dealing with you but is powerful among you.

  4. 2 Cor 13:4For He was indeed crucified in weakness, yet He lives by God’s power. For we are also weak in Him, yet by God’s power we will live with Him concerning you.

  5. 2 Cor 13:5Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Jesus Christ is in you—unless you fail the test?

  6. 2 Cor 13:6And I hope you will realize that we have not failed the test.

  7. 2 Cor 13:7Now we pray to God that you will not do anything wrong—not that we will appear to have stood the test, but that you will do what is right, even if we appear to have failed.

  8. 2 Cor 13:8For we cannot do anything against the truth, but only for the truth.

  9. 2 Cor 13:9In fact, we rejoice when we are weak but you are strong, and our prayer is for your perfection.

  10. 2 Cor 13:10This is why I write these things while absent, so that when I am present I will not need to be severe in my use of the authority that the Lord gave me for building you up, not for tearing you down.

  11. 2 Cor 13:11Finally, brothers, rejoice! Aim for perfect harmony, encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you.

  12. 2 Cor 13:12Greet one another with a holy kiss.

  13. 2 Cor 13:13All the saints send you greetings.

  14. 2 Cor 13:14The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with all of you.

Who else the chapter reaches

Names written in the English are linked in the text above. These are the ones that are not: an entity the Hebrew or Greek names under a spelling the translation does not use, or one reached only by an assertion about a verse of this chapter.

Named in the Hebrew or Greek somewhere in this chapter, under a form the English renders differently — the registry's Ludim against the translation's Ludites — so there is no word in the sentence to hang the link on.

Reached by an assertion Atlas extracted from a verse of this chapter rather than by a name written in it — a pronoun, a title, or a participant the sentence carries without naming. This layer is model-read and measured at 88.6–90.3% precision, and it is kept separate from the names above for that reason.
