Galatians 6

Every verse links to the people and places named in it, and to the passages readers connect it with.

The chapter

What happens here

Atlas's own reading, written from this chapter and nothing else, and published only once a person has approved it. Each scene names the verses it covers; the names inside it link to the people and places they name.

The letter’s final movement runs from large handwriting to a world crucified to its writer, and ends with marks borne on his body.

Burdens and loadsvv. 1–6

A trespasser is to be restored gently, though the restorer had better keep an eye on himself: temptation is evidently fond of changing sides. The believers are told to carry one another’s burdens, while each must also carry his own load—a tidy little paradox, unless burdens and loads have different luggage tags. Instruction is to be met with sharing in good things, not merely nodding solemnly at it.

What is sownvv. 7–10

The argument turns agricultural. Flesh and Spirit are presented as two fields, each producing its own crop, and weariness is not permitted to have the final word. Good is to be done whenever opportunity appears, with special attention to the family of faith; the harvest is promised, though the chapter declines to bring it in early.

Large letters and a final markvv. 11–18

Then, quite suddenly, the writer points out the size of his handwriting. No reason is supplied; the large letters simply arrive, like a conspicuous flourish at the bottom of a serious letter. He attacks those who press circumcision for outward approval and private boasting, setting their conduct against his own refusal to boast except in the cross of Jesus Christ. Circumcision and uncircumcision are dismissed in favour of a new creation, and the closing note is less a farewell than a request not to be troubled again: the writer bears marks on his body belonging to Jesus.

  1. Gal 6:1Brothers, if someone is caught in a trespass, you who are spiritual should restore him with a spirit of gentleness. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted.

  2. Gal 6:2Carry one another’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.

  3. Gal 6:3If anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself.

  4. Gal 6:4Each one should test his own work. Then he will have reason to boast in himself alone, and not in someone else.

  5. Gal 6:5For each one should carry his own load.

  6. Gal 6:6Nevertheless, the one who receives instruction in the word must share in all good things with his instructor.

  7. Gal 6:7Do not be deceived: God is not to be mocked. Whatever a man sows, he will reap in return.

  8. Gal 6:8The one who sows to please his flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; but the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.

  9. Gal 6:9Let us not grow weary in well-doing, for in due time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

  10. Gal 6:10Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to the family of faith.

  11. Gal 6:11See what large letters I am using to write to you with my own hand!

  12. Gal 6:12Those who want to make a good impression outwardly are trying to compel you to be circumcised. They only do this to avoid persecution for the cross of Christ.

  13. Gal 6:13For the circumcised do not even keep the law themselves, yet they want you to be circumcised that they may boast in your flesh.

  14. Gal 6:14But as for me, may I never boast, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.

  15. Gal 6:15For neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything. What counts is a new creation.

  16. Gal 6:16Peace and mercy to all who walk by this rule, even to the Israel of God.

  17. Gal 6:17From now on let no one cause me trouble, for I bear on my body the marks of Jesus.

  18. Gal 6:18The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brothers. Amen.

Who else the chapter reaches

Names written in the English are linked in the text above. These are the ones that are not: an entity the Hebrew or Greek names under a spelling the translation does not use, or one reached only by an assertion about a verse of this chapter.

Named in the Hebrew or Greek somewhere in this chapter, under a form the English renders differently — the registry's Ludim against the translation's Ludites — so there is no word in the sentence to hang the link on.
