Human wrath is assigned a hymn, and its survivors a wardrobe: the psalm says both without explaining either.
The weapons fall silentvv. 1–6
The song places God in Judah, Israel, Salem, and Zion, where flaming arrows, shield, sword, and every weapon of war are shattered. The divine brightness outranks even mountains filled with game—a remarkably well-stocked comparison—and the valiant, horse, and rider are left stunned.
Wrath finds employmentvv. 7–12
No one can stand when God is angry. Judgment comes from heaven; the earth fears and falls still, while God rises to save the lowly. Then comes the psalm's most curious turn: human wrath praises God, and its survivors become divine clothing. Vows, tribute, princes, and kings follow in short order.
