The gates are ordered to lift their heads, and twice ask who this entering King of Glory might be. It is a remarkably grand entrance, with the doors apparently requiring an introduction.

The earth and the hillvv. 1–6

Everything belongs to the LORD: earth, world, and all who dwell in them. He founded it upon the seas and established it upon the waters, after which the psalm asks who may ascend His hill and stand in His holy place. The answer is a person of clean hands and a pure heart, free of idols and deceitful oaths; such a one receives blessing and vindication from the LORD. This is the generation that seeks Him, seeking the face of the God of Jacob.

The doors meet their Kingvv. 7–10

Then the gates and ancient doors are addressed as though they possess heads, which they are told to lift so that the King of Glory may enter. The gates ask who He is, and the answer names the LORD strong and mighty, mighty in battle. The command is repeated, the question is repeated, and the final answer gives Him the grand title: the LORD of Hosts, the King of Glory.
