The entrance test for God’s holy mountain includes a promise that has become expensive, though the psalm never says what the price was.
The Cost of Entryvv. 1–5
David’s psalm begins with a question about who may stay in the LORD’s tent and dwell on His holy mountain. The answer is a person of integrity, truthful speech, a harmless tongue, and a notable refusal to revise “a costly oath”; the reason for its cost is left neatly out of the account. The list then wanders into ordinary dealings: money is lent without interest, and no bribe is accepted against the innocent. Such a person, having passed this remarkably particular entrance examination, “will never be shaken.”
