Every verse links to the people and places named in it, and to the passages readers connect it with.
The chapter
What happens here
Atlas's own reading, written from this chapter and nothing else, and published only once a person has approved it. Each scene names the verses it covers; the names inside it link to the people and places they name.
A national crisis begins with tears, proceeds by oath, and then has to pause for the rainy season; by the end, a long roll of names quietly adds that some of the men had children by the wives being sent away.
Tears, oaths, and an inconvenient skyvv. 1–17
Ezra is still praying, weeping, and lying facedown before the house of God when a vast assembly gathers and takes up the weeping. Shecaniah son of Jehiel then supplies the chapter’s startling pivot: Israel has been unfaithful, but “there is hope.” Ezra is told to rise, the leaders swear an oath, and he withdraws to the chamber of Jehohanan, where mourning takes the practical form of eating and drinking nothing.
A summons brings the exiles to Jerusalem within three days, under threat of forfeited property and expulsion. They arrive and sit in the square at the house of God, trembling over the matter and the heavy rain. Ezra calls for separation; the assembly agrees, but sensibly observes that there are many people, that it is the rainy season, and that a matter of such magnitude cannot be dispatched in a day or two. Jonathan and Jahzeiah, supported by Meshullam and Shabbethai the Levite, oppose the plan; everyone else lets the family heads conduct the investigation, which begins on the first day of the tenth month and finishes by the first day of the first month.
The register, with its little surprisesvv. 18–44
The investigation ends in a long procession of families: priests, Levites, singers, gatekeepers, and the other Israelites. The descendants of Jeshua pledge to send their wives away and offer a ram; the rest are chiefly given as names beneath the headings of Immer, Harim, Pashhur, Parosh, Elam, Zattu, Bebai, Bani, Pahath-moab, Hashum, Binnui, and Nebo.
The list is generally as solemn as a ledger can be, though Parosh supplies two Malchijahs in a single line, as if the roll briefly lost its place and then carried on regardless. The final sentence gathers the whole register into one stark handful of words: every man named had married a foreign woman, and some had children by those wives. The chapter has spent twenty-seven verses naming the men, and leaves the children in the margin of the conclusion.

Ezra 10:1While Ezra prayed and made this confession, weeping and falling facedown before the house of God, a very large assembly of Israelites—men, women, and children—gathered around him, and the people wept bitterly as well.
Ezra 10:2Then Shecaniah son of Jehiel, an Elamite, said to Ezra: “We have been unfaithful to our God by marrying foreign women from the people of the land, yet in spite of this, there is hope for Israel.
Ezra 10:3So now let us make a covenant before our God to send away all the foreign wives and their children, according to the counsel of my lord and of those who tremble at the command of our God. Let it be done according to the Law.
Ezra 10:4Get up, for this matter is your responsibility, and we will support you. Be strong and take action!”
Ezra 10:5So Ezra got up and made the leading priests, Levites, and all Israel take an oath to do what had been said. And they took the oath.
Ezra 10:6Then Ezra withdrew from before the house of God and walked to the chamber of Jehohanan son of Eliashib. And while he stayed there, he ate no food and drank no water, because he was mourning over the unfaithfulness of the exiles.
Ezra 10:7And a proclamation was issued throughout Judah and Jerusalem that all the exiles should gather at Jerusalem.
Ezra 10:8Whoever failed to appear within three days would forfeit all his property, according to the counsel of the leaders and elders, and would himself be expelled from the assembly of the exiles.
Ezra 10:9So within the three days, all the men of Judah and Benjamin assembled in Jerusalem, and on the twentieth day of the ninth month, all the people sat in the square at the house of God, trembling regarding this matter and because of the heavy rain.
Ezra 10:10Then Ezra the priest stood up and said to them, “You have been unfaithful by marrying foreign women, adding to the guilt of Israel.
Ezra 10:11Now, therefore, make a confession to the LORD, the God of your fathers, and do His will. Separate yourselves from the people of the land and from your foreign wives.”
Ezra 10:12And the whole assembly responded in a loud voice: “Truly we must do as you say!
Ezra 10:13But there are many people here, and it is the rainy season. We are not able to stay out in the open. Nor is this the work of one or two days, for we have transgressed greatly in this matter.
Ezra 10:14Let our leaders represent the whole assembly. Then let everyone in our towns who has married a foreign woman come at an appointed time, together with the elders and judges of each town, until the fierce anger of our God in this matter is turned away from us.”
Ezra 10:15(Only Jonathan son of Asahel and Jahzeiah son of Tikvah, supported by Meshullam and Shabbethai the Levite, opposed this plan.)
Ezra 10:16So the exiles did as proposed. Ezra the priest selected men who were family heads, each of them identified by name, to represent their families. On the first day of the tenth month they launched the investigation,
Ezra 10:17and by the first day of the first month they had dealt with all the men who had married foreign women.
Ezra 10:18Among the descendants of the priests who had married foreign women were found these descendants of Jeshua son of Jozadak and his brothers: Maaseiah, Eliezer, Jarib, and Gedaliah.

Who else the chapter reaches
Names written in the English are linked in the text above. These are the ones that are not: an entity the Hebrew or Greek names under a spelling the translation does not use, or one reached only by an assertion about a verse of this chapter.
Named in the Hebrew or Greek somewhere in this chapter, under a form the English renders differently — the registry's Ludim against the translation's Ludites — so there is no word in the sentence to hang the link on.
Reached by an assertion Atlas extracted from a verse of this chapter rather than by a name written in it — a pronoun, a title, or a participant the sentence carries without naming. This layer is model-read and measured at 88.6–90.3% precision, and it is kept separate from the names above for that reason.
