The chapter

What happens here

Atlas's own reading, written from this chapter and nothing else, and published only once a person has approved it. Each scene names the verses it covers; the names inside it link to the people and places they name.

The priests prepare to minister, and then a cloud fills the house so thoroughly that they cannot stand there to do it.

The ark finds its placevv. 1–10

The work is finished, David’s dedicated treasures are put away, and Solomon summons Israel to Jerusalem for the ark’s ascent from Zion. The Levites carry the ark and the Tent of Meeting with its furnishings; Solomon and the congregation sacrifice sheep and oxen in such numbers that counting gives up. The ark is placed beneath the cherubim in the Most Holy Place, while its poles occupy a wonderfully exact boundary: visible from in front of the inner sanctuary, invisible from outside the Holy Place, and still there to this day. Inside the ark are only the two tablets Moses placed there at Horeb.

The music is interrupted by gloryvv. 11–14

The priests emerge, and the singers take the east side of the altar: Asaph, Heman, Jeduthun, their sons and relatives, dressed in fine linen, with cymbals, harps, and lyres. One hundred and twenty priests add trumpets, and all join in the praise that the LORD is good and that His loving devotion endures forever. Then the temple fills with a cloud, leaving the priests unable to stand and minister. The ceremony has reached the point at which the ministers cannot get on with ministering—a most imposing sort of interruption.

  1. 2 Chr 5:1So all the work that Solomon had performed for the house of the LORD was completed. Then Solomon brought in the items his father David had dedicated—the silver, the gold, and all the furnishings—and he placed them in the treasuries of the house of God.

  2. 2 Chr 5:2At that time Solomon assembled in Jerusalem the elders of Israel—all the tribal heads and family leaders of the Israelites—to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD from Zion, the City of David.

  3. 2 Chr 5:3So all the men of Israel came together to the king at the feast in the seventh month.

  4. 2 Chr 5:4When all the elders of Israel had arrived, the Levites took up the ark,

  5. 2 Chr 5:5and they brought up the ark and the Tent of Meeting with all its sacred furnishings. The Levitical priests carried them up.

  6. 2 Chr 5:6There, before the ark, King Solomon and the whole congregation of Israel who had assembled with him sacrificed so many sheep and oxen that they could not be counted or numbered.

  7. 2 Chr 5:7Then the priests brought the ark of the covenant of the LORD to its place in the inner sanctuary of the temple, the Most Holy Place, beneath the wings of the cherubim.

  8. 2 Chr 5:8For the cherubim spread their wings over the place of the ark and overshadowed the ark and its poles.

  9. 2 Chr 5:9The poles of the ark extended far enough that their ends were visible from in front of the inner sanctuary, but not from outside the Holy Place; and they are there to this day.

  10. 2 Chr 5:10There was nothing in the ark except the two tablets that Moses had placed in it at Horeb, where the LORD had made a covenant with the Israelites after they had come out of Egypt.

  11. 2 Chr 5:11Now all the priests who were present had consecrated themselves regardless of their divisions. And when the priests came out of the Holy Place,

  12. 2 Chr 5:12all the Levitical singers—Asaph, Heman, Jeduthun, and their sons and relatives—stood on the east side of the altar, dressed in fine linen and playing cymbals, harps, and lyres, accompanied by 120 priests sounding trumpets.

  13. 2 Chr 5:13The trumpeters and singers joined together to praise and thank the LORD with one voice. They lifted up their voices, accompanied by trumpets, cymbals, and musical instruments, in praise to the LORD: “For He is good; His loving devotion endures forever.” And the temple, the house of the LORD, was filled with a cloud

  14. 2 Chr 5:14so that the priests could not stand there to minister because of the cloud. For the glory of the LORD filled the house of God.

Who else the chapter reaches

Names written in the English are linked in the text above. These are the ones that are not: an entity the Hebrew or Greek names under a spelling the translation does not use, or one reached only by an assertion about a verse of this chapter.

Named in the Hebrew or Greek somewhere in this chapter, under a form the English renders differently — the registry's Ludim against the translation's Ludites — so there is no word in the sentence to hang the link on.

Reached by an assertion Atlas extracted from a verse of this chapter rather than by a name written in it — a pronoun, a title, or a participant the sentence carries without naming. This layer is model-read and measured at 88.6–90.3% precision, and it is kept separate from the names above for that reason.
