The chapter

What happens here

Atlas's own reading, written from this chapter and nothing else, and published only once a person has approved it. Each scene names the verses it covers; the names inside it link to the people and places they name.

David asks the LORD to arrive with shield, buckler, spear, and javelin, while his own bones prepare to shout; meanwhile his enemies have laid nets, dug pits, and somehow turned into jesters gnashing their teeth at a feast.

Nets, pits, and a speaking skeletonvv. 1–10

The prayer opens like a summons to an armed rescuer. David asks the LORD to drive away those who pursue him, even by the wonderfully slippery route of a dark and slick path. His enemies have set traps without cause, and the hoped-for reversal is satisfyingly mechanical: the hidden net catches its hiders. Then David’s soul rejoices, and all his bones join in the praise.

Kindness returned as teethvv. 11–18

The opponents now appear as hostile witnesses, making charges David does not know. Their evil is set against his former care: when they were ill, he wore sackcloth, fasted, and mourned them as friend, brother, or mother. The grim little exchange ends with his prayers returning unanswered, while his enemies gather in glee, slander without ceasing, and behave like festive jesters with their teeth out. David asks how long the LORD will watch, then promises thanks in the great assembly if rescue comes.

The appeal and the final chorusvv. 19–28

The enemies are not merely hostile; they devise deceitful schemes against quiet people, gape at David, and announce their supposed triumph with an “Aha.” David answers with repeated summonses: the LORD has seen, must not be silent, and must rise to his defense. He asks that the plotters be clothed in shame, while those who favor his vindication are invited into a much happier chorus. His own tongue will keep the music going all day.

Who else the chapter reaches

Names written in the English are linked in the text above. These are the ones that are not: an entity the Hebrew or Greek names under a spelling the translation does not use, or one reached only by an assertion about a verse of this chapter.

Reached by an assertion Atlas extracted from a verse of this chapter rather than by a name written in it — a pronoun, a title, or a participant the sentence carries without naming. This layer is model-read and measured at 88.6–90.3% precision, and it is kept separate from the names above for that reason.
