The One exalted above the heavens stoops to look at them—and then lifts the needy from a dump into the company of princes.
Praise from sunrise to sunsetvv. 1–6
The psalm opens with a summons to the LORD’s servants: praise is to run from sunrise to sunset, while the LORD’s glory stands above the heavens. Then comes the deliciously vertiginous turn: the One enthroned on high humbles Himself simply to behold the heavens and the earth.
From the dump to the princesvv. 7–9
The height of the psalm now becomes a strange social lift: the poor rise from dust, the needy from a dump, and both are seated among nobles and princes. The final reversal is domestic and very particular—a barren woman settled at home as a joyful mother to her children. Hallelujah indeed.
