What happens here
Atlas's own reading, written from this chapter and nothing else, and published only once a person has approved it. Each scene names the verses it covers; the names inside it link to the people and places they name.
Paul manages to rejoice when Christ is preached by people who are preaching for the worst of reasons—a remarkably generous triumph, in which even envy is made to serve the gospel.
A letter full of affectionvv. 1–11
Paul and Timothy address the saints at Philippi, along with the overseers and deacons, and Paul’s thanks quickly becomes prayer. He remembers their partnership in the gospel with joy, holds them in his heart, and asks that their love grow in knowledge, insight, and the fruit of righteousness.
Chains, and the surprisingly useful trouble they causevv. 12–20
Paul’s circumstances have advanced the gospel: the palace guard knows why he is in chains, and other brothers have become bolder. Some preach Christ from goodwill, others from envy, rivalry, and selfish ambition; Paul is not fussy about the motive so long as Christ is preached. His distress, he says, will turn out for deliverance through prayer and the provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ.
The dilemma of livingvv. 21–30
Paul gives the matter an arresting pair of accounts: living is Christ, dying is gain. Departing to be with Christ would be far better, yet remaining is more necessary for the Philippians, so he expects to remain for their progress and joy. He ends by asking them to stand firm together, unfrightened by opposition, sharing the same struggle they have seen and heard in him.

Phil 1:1Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus, To all the saints in Christ Jesus at Philippi, together with the overseers and deacons:
Phil 1:2Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Phil 1:3I thank my God every time I remember you.
Phil 1:4In every prayer for all of you, I always pray with joy,
Phil 1:5because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now,
Phil 1:6being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
Phil 1:7It is right for me to feel this way about all of you, since I have you in my heart. For in my chains and in my defense and confirmation of the gospel, you are all partners in grace with me.
Phil 1:8God is my witness how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus.
Phil 1:9And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight,
Phil 1:10so that you may be able to test and prove what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ,
Phil 1:11filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.
Phil 1:12Now I want you to know, brothers, that my circumstances have actually served to advance the gospel.
Phil 1:13As a result, it has become clear throughout the whole palace guard and to everyone else that I am in chains for Christ.
Phil 1:14And most of the brothers, confident in the Lord by my chains, now dare more greatly to speak the word without fear.
Phil 1:15It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill.
Phil 1:16The latter do so in love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel.
Phil 1:17The former, however, preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can add to the distress of my chains.
Phil 1:18What then is the issue? Just this: that in every way, whether by false motives or true, Christ is preached. And in this I rejoice. Yes, and I will continue to rejoice,
Phil 1:19because I know that through your prayers and the provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, my distress will turn out for my deliverance.
Phil 1:20I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have complete boldness so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death.
Phil 1:22But if I go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. So what shall I choose? I do not know.
Phil 1:23I am torn between the two. I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better indeed.
Phil 1:24But it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body.
Phil 1:25Convinced of this, I know that I will remain and will continue with all of you for your progress and joy in the faith,
Phil 1:26so that through my coming to you again your exultation in Christ Jesus will resound on account of me.
Phil 1:27Nevertheless, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in one spirit, contending together as one for the faith of the gospel,
Phil 1:28without being frightened in any way by those who oppose you. This is a clear sign of their destruction but of your salvation, and it is from God.
Phil 1:29For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for Him,
Phil 1:30since you are encountering the same struggle you saw I had, and now hear that I still have.

Who else the chapter reaches
Names written in the English are linked in the text above. These are the ones that are not: an entity the Hebrew or Greek names under a spelling the translation does not use, or one reached only by an assertion about a verse of this chapter.
Reached by an assertion Atlas extracted from a verse of this chapter rather than by a name written in it — a pronoun, a title, or a participant the sentence carries without naming. This layer is model-read and measured at 88.6–90.3% precision, and it is kept separate from the names above for that reason.
