What happens here
Atlas's own reading, written from this chapter and nothing else, and published only once a person has approved it. Each scene names the verses it covers; the names inside it link to the people and places they name.
The winner of the race to the tomb stops at its threshold, while Peter, arriving second, goes straight in. Then the winner follows, and the grave offers them linen, a neatly separate head-cloth, and rather more mystery than a footrace usually produces.
The race to the empty tombvv. 1–10
Mary Magdalene arrives while it is still dark and finds the stone gone. She runs to Peter and the other disciple with the alarming conclusion that the Lord has been taken away. The two men race to the tomb: the other disciple wins, but pauses outside; Peter arrives afterwards and enters first. The other disciple then goes in too, sees, and believes—though neither yet understands from Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead. They return home, leaving the tomb and Mary to their separate appointments.
Mary and the gardenervv. 11–18
Mary remains outside, weeping, and looks in. Two angels sit where Jesus’ body had lain, one at the head and one at the feet; their arrangement has the air of a very solemn tableau. She answers their question as she answered Peter: someone has taken her Lord, and she does not know where. Then Jesus stands before her, though she takes him for the gardener and asks where he has put the body. Recognition arrives not by sight but by a name: “Mary.” She answers “Rabboni!”, and Jesus sends her to tell his brothers that he is ascending to his Father and their Father, his God and their God. Mary goes and announces that she has seen the Lord.
Behind locked doorsvv. 19–29
That evening the disciples are together behind locked doors, fear having furnished the lock. Jesus appears among them and shows his hands and side; joy follows the inspection. He sends them as the Father sent him, breathes on them, and speaks of forgiveness being forgiven or withheld. Thomas is absent for this first appearance and refuses the testimony of the others in terms of an exceptionally exact physical examination. Eight days later, with Thomas present and the doors locked again, Jesus offers precisely the hands and side Thomas had named. Thomas answers with “My Lord and my God!”
The signs that remainvv. 30–31
The chapter closes by admitting that Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, not all of them written here. What has been written is given a stated purpose: that readers may believe Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and, believing, may have life in his name.

John 20:1Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance.
John 20:2So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved. “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb,” she said, “and we do not know where they have put Him!”
John 20:3Then Peter and the other disciple set out for the tomb.
John 20:4The two were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first.
John 20:5He bent down and looked in at the linen cloths lying there, but he did not go in.
John 20:6Simon Peter arrived just after him. He entered the tomb and saw the linen cloths lying there.
John 20:7The cloth that had been around Jesus’ head was rolled up, lying separate from the linen cloths.
John 20:8Then the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went in. And he saw and believed.
John 20:9For they still did not understand from the Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead.
John 20:10Then the disciples returned to their homes.
John 20:11But Mary stood outside the tomb weeping. And as she wept, she bent down to look into the tomb,
John 20:12and she saw two angels in white sitting where the body of Jesus had lain, one at the head and the other at the feet.
John 20:13“Woman, why are you weeping?” they asked. “Because they have taken my Lord away,” she said, “and I do not know where they have put Him.”
John 20:14When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there. But she did not recognize that it was Jesus.
John 20:15“Woman, why are you weeping?” Jesus asked. “Whom are you seeking?” Thinking He was the gardener, she said, “Sir, if you have carried Him off, tell me where you have put Him, and I will get Him.”
John 20:16Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned and said to Him in Hebrew, “Rabboni!” (which means “Teacher”).
John 20:17“Do not cling to Me,” Jesus said, “for I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go and tell My brothers, ‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, to My God and your God.’”
John 20:18Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord!” And she told them what He had said to her.
John 20:19It was the first day of the week, and that very evening, while the disciples were together with the doors locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them. “Peace be with you!” He said to them.
John 20:20After He had said this, He showed them His hands and His side. The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord.
John 20:21Again Jesus said to them, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent Me, so also I am sending you.”
John 20:22When He had said this, He breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.
John 20:23If you forgive anyone his sins, they are forgiven; if you withhold forgiveness from anyone, it is withheld.”
John 20:24Now Thomas called Didymus, one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came.
John 20:25So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he replied, “Unless I see the nail marks in His hands, and put my finger where the nails have been, and put my hand into His side, I will never believe.”
John 20:26Eight days later, His disciples were once again inside with the doors locked, and Thomas was with them. Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.”
John 20:27Then Jesus said to Thomas, “Put your finger here and look at My hands. Reach out your hand and put it into My side. Stop doubting and believe.”
John 20:28Thomas replied, “My Lord and my God!”
John 20:29Jesus said to him, “Because you have seen Me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
John 20:30Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book.
John 20:31But these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His name.

Who else the chapter reaches
Names written in the English are linked in the text above. These are the ones that are not: an entity the Hebrew or Greek names under a spelling the translation does not use, or one reached only by an assertion about a verse of this chapter.
Named in the Hebrew or Greek somewhere in this chapter, under a form the English renders differently — the registry's Ludim against the translation's Ludites — so there is no word in the sentence to hang the link on.
Reached by an assertion Atlas extracted from a verse of this chapter rather than by a name written in it — a pronoun, a title, or a participant the sentence carries without naming. This layer is model-read and measured at 88.6–90.3% precision, and it is kept separate from the names above for that reason.
