The chapter
What happens here
Atlas's own reading, written from this chapter and nothing else, and published only once a person has approved it. Each scene names the verses it covers; the names inside it link to the people and places they name.
A name long enough for a scroll is written down, then put upon a newborn child: Maher-shalal-hash-baz. The ordinary stylus is asked to carry an extraordinary piece of luggage.
The name and the floodvv. 1–10
The LORD orders the name onto a large scroll in an ordinary hand, appointing Uriah the priest and Zechariah son of Jeberekiah as witnesses. Then the prophetess bears a son and receives the same formidable name for him. Before the child can say “Father” or “Mother,” Damascus and Samaria will be plundered by Assyria. The gently flowing waters of Shiloah are rejected in favour of Rezin and the son of Remaliah, so the Euphrates arrives in full imperial flood, pouring into Judah up to the neck. The nations are summoned to battle, but the summons immediately trips over its own conclusion: prepare for battle, and be shattered—twice. Plans fail, proposals fail, and the little sentence at the end stands like a flag in the wreckage: God is with us.
Sanctuary, snare, and utter darknessvv. 11–22
With a strong hand, the LORD instructs the prophet not to follow the people's fears or call every fearsome thing a conspiracy. The LORD of Hosts is to be regarded as holy; yet the holy presence becomes, for the two houses of Israel, a stumbling stone and rock of offence, and for Jerusalem's dwellers, a trap and a snare. The testimony is bound up and the law sealed among the disciples, while the prophet waits for the LORD, who is hiding His face from the house of Jacob. He and the children given to him stand as signs and symbols in Israel. Then come the whispering mediums and spiritists, and the brisk question of why the living should consult the dead. Those who reject the law and testimony find no dawn: only hunger, rage, curses, distress, darkness, and finally utter darkness.

Isa 8:1Then the LORD said to me, “Take a large scroll and write on it with an ordinary stylus: Maher-shalal-hash-baz.
Isa 8:2And I will appoint for Myself trustworthy witnesses—Uriah the priest and Zechariah son of Jeberekiah.”
Isa 8:3And I had relations with the prophetess, and she conceived and gave birth to a son. The LORD said to me, “Name him Maher-shalal-hash-baz.
Isa 8:4For before the boy knows how to cry ‘Father’ or ‘Mother,’ the wealth of Damascus and the plunder of Samaria will be carried off by the king of Assyria.”
Isa 8:5And the LORD spoke to me further:
Isa 8:6“Because this people has rejected the gently flowing waters of Shiloah and rejoiced in Rezin and the son of Remaliah,
Isa 8:7the Lord will surely bring against them the mighty floodwaters of the Euphrates—the king of Assyria and all his pomp. It will overflow its channels and overrun its banks.
Isa 8:8It will pour into Judah, swirling and sweeping over it, reaching up to the neck; its spreading streams will cover your entire land, O Immanuel!
Isa 8:9Huddle together, O peoples, and be shattered; pay attention, all you distant lands; prepare for battle, and be shattered; prepare for battle, and be shattered!
Isa 8:10Devise a plan, but it will be thwarted; state a proposal, but it will not happen. For God is with us.”
Isa 8:11For this is what the LORD has spoken to me with a strong hand, instructing me not to walk in the way of this people:
Isa 8:12“Do not call conspiracy everything these people regard as conspiracy. Do not fear what they fear; do not live in dread.
Isa 8:13The LORD of Hosts is the One you shall regard as holy. Only He should be feared; only He should be dreaded.
Isa 8:14And He will be a sanctuary—but to both houses of Israel a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense, to the dwellers of Jerusalem a trap and a snare.
Isa 8:15Many will stumble over these; they will fall and be broken; they will be ensnared and captured.”
Isa 8:16Bind up the testimony and seal the law among my disciples.
Isa 8:17I will wait for the LORD, who is hiding His face from the house of Jacob. I will put my trust in Him.
Isa 8:18Here am I, and the children the LORD has given me as signs and symbols in Israel from the LORD of Hosts, who dwells on Mount Zion.
Isa 8:19When men tell you to consult mediums and spiritists who whisper and mutter, shouldn’t a people consult their God instead? Why consult the dead on behalf of the living?
Isa 8:20To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, they have no light of dawn.
Isa 8:21They will roam the land, dejected and hungry. When they are famished, they will become enraged; and looking upward, they will curse their king and their God.
Isa 8:22Then they will look to the earth and see only distress and darkness and the gloom of anguish. And they will be driven into utter darkness.

Who else the chapter reaches
Names written in the English are linked in the text above. These are the ones that are not: an entity the Hebrew or Greek names under a spelling the translation does not use, or one reached only by an assertion about a verse of this chapter.
Named in the Hebrew or Greek somewhere in this chapter, under a form the English renders differently — the registry's Ludim against the translation's Ludites — so there is no word in the sentence to hang the link on.
