The chapter
What happens here
Atlas's own reading, written from this chapter and nothing else, and published only once a person has approved it. Each scene names the verses it covers; the names inside it link to the people and places they name.
At the hour of birth, Ephraim is an unwise son who fails to present himself at the opening of the womb.
From trembling to vanishingvv. 1–6
Ephraim once spoke and made Israel tremble, exalted among them; then Baal entered the account, and Ephraim died. The people manufacture silver idols, kiss calves, and are spoken of as offering human sacrifice—an impressively crowded little gallery of wrongdoing. Their end is pictured as mist, dew, chaff, and smoke, while the LORD recalls knowing them in the wilderness; pasture satisfied them, satisfaction made them proud, and pride made them forget.
The king, the beasts, and the unopened way outvv. 7–13
The LORD becomes a lion, a leopard, and a bear robbed of her cubs, with the imagery growing less like a warning than a menagerie breaking loose. Israel is destroyed for being against its helper, and its king is recalled with a peculiar economy: given in anger, taken away in wrath. Then Ephraim's stored-up sin meets labor pains, but the son is unwise and, when the moment comes, does not present himself at the opening of the womb.
Death taunted, compassion hiddenvv. 14–16
The LORD announces ransom from Sheol and redemption from Death, then turns to address both as though they had been caught boasting: where are their plagues, where is their sting? Compassion, however, is hidden from His eyes. An east wind from the desert will dry Ephraim's fountain and plunder his treasury, while Samaria bears her guilt in a final scene of sword, shattered little ones, and ripped-open pregnant women.

Hos 13:1When Ephraim spoke, there was trembling; he was exalted in Israel. But he incurred guilt through Baal, and he died.
Hos 13:2Now they sin more and more and make for themselves cast images, idols skillfully made from their silver, all of them the work of craftsmen. People say of them, “They offer human sacrifice and kiss the calves!”
Hos 13:3Therefore they will be like the morning mist, like the early dew that vanishes, like chaff blown from a threshing floor, like smoke through an open window.
Hos 13:4Yet I am the LORD your God ever since the land of Egypt; you know no God but Me, for there is no Savior besides Me.
Hos 13:5I knew you in the wilderness, in the land of drought.
Hos 13:6When they had pasture, they became satisfied; when they were satisfied, their hearts became proud, and as a result they forgot Me.
Hos 13:7So like a lion I will pounce on them; like a leopard I will lurk by the path.
Hos 13:8Like a bear robbed of her cubs I will attack them, and I will tear open their chests. There I will devour them like a lion, like a wild beast tearing them apart.
Hos 13:9You are destroyed, O Israel, because you are against Me—against your helper.
Hos 13:10Where is your king now to save you in all your cities, and the rulers to whom you said, “Give me a king and princes”?
Hos 13:11So in My anger I gave you a king, and in My wrath I took him away.
Hos 13:12The iniquity of Ephraim is bound up; his sin is stored up.
Hos 13:13Labor pains come upon him, but he is an unwise son. When the time arrives, he fails to present himself at the opening of the womb.
Hos 13:14I will ransom them from the power of Sheol; I will redeem them from Death. Where, O Death, are your plagues? Where, O Sheol, is your sting? Compassion is hidden from My eyes.
Hos 13:15Although he flourishes among his brothers, an east wind will come—a wind from the LORD rising up from the desert. His fountain will fail, and his spring will run dry. The wind will plunder his treasury of every precious article.
Hos 13:16Samaria will bear her guilt because she has rebelled against her God. They will fall by the sword; their little ones will be dashed to pieces, and their pregnant women ripped open.

Who else the chapter reaches
Names written in the English are linked in the text above. These are the ones that are not: an entity the Hebrew or Greek names under a spelling the translation does not use, or one reached only by an assertion about a verse of this chapter.
Reached by an assertion Atlas extracted from a verse of this chapter rather than by a name written in it — a pronoun, a title, or a participant the sentence carries without naming. This layer is model-read and measured at 88.6–90.3% precision, and it is kept separate from the names above for that reason.
