The chapter

What happens here

Atlas's own reading, written from this chapter and nothing else, and published only once a person has approved it. Each scene names the verses it covers; the names inside it link to the people and places they name.

The heart is given eyes, and Paul asks that they be enlightened: a most curious arrangement for an organ usually occupied with other business.

Chosen, redeemed, and sealedvv. 1–14

Paul opens by naming himself an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, then addresses the saints in Ephesus and the faithful in Christ Jesus. The blessing that follows gathers up an astonishing abundance: choosing before the foundation of the world, adoption, grace, redemption, forgiveness, wisdom, and a plan to bring all things in heaven and on earth together in Christ. Those who heard and believed the word of truth were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, described as the pledge of an inheritance still awaiting redemption.

A prayer for sightvv. 15–23

Having heard of their faith in the Lord Jesus and their love for all the saints, Paul says that he has not stopped giving thanks for them. His prayer asks God to give wisdom and revelation, and then comes the chapter’s wonderfully furnished heart: its eyes are to be enlightened, so that it may know the hope of the calling, the inheritance among the saints, and the surpassing greatness of divine power. That power raised Christ from the dead, seated Him at God’s right hand, placed everything under His feet, and made Him head over everything for the church—which is His body, and somehow also His fullness.

Who else the chapter reaches

Names written in the English are linked in the text above. These are the ones that are not: an entity the Hebrew or Greek names under a spelling the translation does not use, or one reached only by an assertion about a verse of this chapter.

Reached by an assertion Atlas extracted from a verse of this chapter rather than by a name written in it — a pronoun, a title, or a participant the sentence carries without naming. This layer is model-read and measured at 88.6–90.3% precision, and it is kept separate from the names above for that reason.
