Every verse links to the people and places named in it, and to the passages readers connect it with.

Atlas's own reading, written from this chapter and nothing else, and published only once a person has approved it. Each scene names the verses it covers; the names inside it link to the people and places they name.

The grand procession lasts precisely until Uzzah puts out a hand to save the ark from a stumble; then David is angry, afraid, and suddenly looking for somewhere else to leave it.

A national plan for the arkvv. 1–8

David begins with a consultation of commanders and the whole assembly, and the proposal is wonderfully straightforward: summon Israel, priests, and Levites, and bring back the ark, since Saul’s days had passed without inquiring of God. The agreement is unanimous. From the River Shihor in Egypt to Lebo-hamath, all Israel gathers, and the ark comes out from Kiriath-jearim on a new cart, guided by Uzzah and Ahio. There is music enough for a royal procession, with harps, lyres, tambourines, cymbals, and trumpets, and everyone celebrating before God with all their might.

The cart, the hand, and the householdvv. 9–14

At the threshing floor of Chidon, the oxen stumble. Uzzah reaches for the ark, and the celebration ends with his death before God. David’s first response is anger at what has happened; then fear takes its place, along with the plaintive question, “How can I ever bring the ark of God to me?” The ark is not brought into the City of David but taken aside to Obed-edom the Gittite. There it remains for three months, in a household that receives blessing after a procession that had ended so abruptly.

  1. 1 Chr 13:1Then David conferred with all his leaders, the commanders of thousands and of hundreds.

  2. 1 Chr 13:2And he said to the whole assembly of Israel, “If it seems good to you, and if this is of the LORD our God, let us send word far and wide to the rest of our brothers in all the land of Israel, and also to the priests and Levites in their cities and pasturelands, so that they may join us.

  3. 1 Chr 13:3Then let us bring back the ark of our God, for we did not inquire of Him in the days of Saul.”

  4. 1 Chr 13:4And because this proposal seemed right to all the people, the whole assembly agreed to it.

  5. 1 Chr 13:5So David assembled all Israel, from the River Shihor in Egypt to Lebo-hamath, to bring the ark of God from Kiriath-jearim.

  6. 1 Chr 13:6David and all Israel went up to Baalah of Judah (that is, Kiriath-jearim) to bring up from there the ark of God the LORD, who is enthroned between the cherubim—the ark that is called by the Name.

  7. 1 Chr 13:7So they carried the ark of God from the house of Abinadab on a new cart, with Uzzah and Ahio guiding the cart.

  8. 1 Chr 13:8David and all the Israelites were celebrating before God with all their might, with songs and on harps and lyres, with tambourines, cymbals, and trumpets.

  9. 1 Chr 13:9When they came to the threshing floor of Chidon, Uzzah reached out and took hold of the ark, because the oxen had stumbled.

  10. 1 Chr 13:10And the anger of the LORD burned against Uzzah, and He struck him down because he had put his hand on the ark. So he died there before God.

  11. 1 Chr 13:11Then David became angry because the LORD had burst forth against Uzzah. So he named that place Perez-uzzah, as it is called to this day.

  12. 1 Chr 13:12That day David feared God and asked, “How can I ever bring the ark of God to me?”

  13. 1 Chr 13:13So he did not move the ark with him to the City of David; instead, he took it aside to the house of Obed-edom the Gittite.

  14. 1 Chr 13:14Thus the ark of God remained with the family of Obed-edom in his house for three months, and the LORD blessed his household and everything he owned.

Who else the chapter reaches

Names written in the English are linked in the text above. These are the ones that are not: an entity the Hebrew or Greek names under a spelling the translation does not use, or one reached only by an assertion about a verse of this chapter.

Named in the Hebrew or Greek somewhere in this chapter, under a form the English renders differently — the registry's Ludim against the translation's Ludites — so there is no word in the sentence to hang the link on.

Reached by an assertion Atlas extracted from a verse of this chapter rather than by a name written in it — a pronoun, a title, or a participant the sentence carries without naming. This layer is model-read and measured at 88.6–90.3% precision, and it is kept separate from the names above for that reason.
