What happens here

Atlas's own reading, written from this chapter and nothing else, and published only once a person has approved it. Each scene names the verses it covers; the names inside it link to the people and places they name.

The wound is declared incurable, without remedy or recovery, and then the LORD promises to restore health and heal it. Jeremiah 30 keeps both diagnoses on the page, where the impossible-looking patient is also the future recipient of a cure.

A cry, a yoke, and a kingvv. 1–11

Jeremiah is told to write the words in a book, because Israel and Judah are to be brought back to the land given to their fathers. Before that return, however, comes a most peculiar spectacle: men clutching their stomachs like women in labor, with every face gone pale. The day is dreadful, but not final. The yoke is broken, the bonds torn away, and the rescued people will serve the LORD and David their king. Jacob is promised quiet and ease, though discipline has not been cancelled; the LORD saves without pretending that punishment never happened.

The wound that changes its mindvv. 12–17

Israel’s injury is called grievous, incurable, and beyond pleading. The old lovers have vanished, the wound is treated as the consequence of great iniquity, and the language leaves scarcely a bandage in the cupboard. Then comes the turn: those who devoured, plundered, and raided will meet the same fate, while the LORD restores health to the one called an outcast, Zion, for whom no one cares. The wound has not become less real; it has simply encountered a promise larger than its diagnosis.

Ruins, celebration, and the approaching stormvv. 18–24

Jacob’s tents and dwellings are restored, and the city is rebuilt on her own ruins—a foundation with a past life still showing through it. Thanksgiving and celebration return; children are as in days of old, the congregation is established, and oppressors are punished. A ruler rises from among the people, near enough to approach the LORD, and the relationship is stated in its plainest form: people and God belonging to one another. Yet above this restoration the storm still turns: fury goes out against the wicked, and the fierce anger of the LORD will not turn back until the purposes of His heart are accomplished.

  1. Jer 30:1This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD:

  2. Jer 30:2“This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘Write in a book all the words that I have spoken to you.

  3. Jer 30:3For behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will restore from captivity My people Israel and Judah, declares the LORD. I will restore them to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they will possess it.’”

  4. Jer 30:4These are the words that the LORD spoke concerning Israel and Judah.

  5. Jer 30:5Yes, this is what the LORD says: “A cry of panic is heard—a cry of terror, not of peace.

  6. Jer 30:6Ask now, and see: Can a male give birth? Why then do I see every man with his hands on his stomach like a woman in labor and every face turned pale?

  7. Jer 30:7How awful that day will be! None will be like it! It is the time of Jacob’s distress, but he will be saved out of it.

  8. Jer 30:8On that day, declares the LORD of Hosts, I will break the yoke off their necks and tear off their bonds, and no longer will strangers enslave them.

  9. Jer 30:9Instead, they will serve the LORD their God and David their king, whom I will raise up for them.

  10. Jer 30:10As for you, O Jacob My servant, do not be afraid, declares the LORD, and do not be dismayed, O Israel. For I will surely save you out of a distant place, your descendants from the land of their captivity! Jacob will return to quiet and ease, with no one to make him afraid.

  11. Jer 30:11For I am with you to save you, declares the LORD. Though I will completely destroy all the nations to which I have scattered you, I will not completely destroy you. Yet I will discipline you justly, and will by no means leave you unpunished.”

  12. Jer 30:12For this is what the LORD says: “Your injury is incurable; your wound is grievous.

  13. Jer 30:13There is no one to plead your cause, no remedy for your sores, no recovery for you.

  14. Jer 30:14All your lovers have forgotten you; they no longer seek you, for I have struck you as an enemy would, with the discipline of someone cruel, because of your great iniquity and your numerous sins.

  15. Jer 30:15Why do you cry out over your wound? Your pain has no cure! Because of your great iniquity and your numerous sins I have done these things to you.

  16. Jer 30:16Nevertheless, all who devour you will be devoured, and all your adversaries—every one of them—will go off into exile. Those who plundered you will be plundered, and all who raided you will be raided.

  17. Jer 30:17But I will restore your health and heal your wounds, declares the LORD, because they call you an outcast, Zion, for whom no one cares.”

  18. Jer 30:18This is what the LORD says: “I will restore the fortunes of Jacob’s tents and have compassion on his dwellings. And the city will be rebuilt on her own ruins, and the palace will stand in its rightful place.

  19. Jer 30:19Thanksgiving will proceed from them, a sound of celebration. I will multiply them, and they will not be decreased; I will honor them, and they will not be belittled.

  20. Jer 30:20Their children will be as in days of old, and their congregation will be established before Me; and I will punish all their oppressors.

  21. Jer 30:21Their leader will be one of their own, and their ruler will arise from their midst. And I will bring him near, and he will approach Me, for who would dare on his own to approach Me?” declares the LORD.

  22. Jer 30:22“And you will be My people, and I will be your God.”

  23. Jer 30:23Behold, the storm of the LORD has gone out with fury, a whirlwind swirling down upon the heads of the wicked.

  24. Jer 30:24The fierce anger of the LORD will not turn back until He has fully accomplished the purposes of His heart. In the days to come you will understand this.

Who else the chapter reaches

Names written in the English are linked in the text above. These are the ones that are not: an entity the Hebrew or Greek names under a spelling the translation does not use, or one reached only by an assertion about a verse of this chapter.

Reached by an assertion Atlas extracted from a verse of this chapter rather than by a name written in it — a pronoun, a title, or a participant the sentence carries without naming. This layer is model-read and measured at 88.6–90.3% precision, and it is kept separate from the names above for that reason.
